Windows XP – Automatic updates problem

In Windows XP, new updates had been downloaded, but not installed. When I tried to shut down the computer, Windows XP tried to force the installation of the updates, but it froze. It displayed a message that it was trying to install update 1 of 9, and warned that I should not shut down the computer.

Solution: Press and hold the power button until the computer shuts down. Restart, and after logging in right click on ‘my computer’ and select properties. On the ‘automatic updates’ tab, select the ‘notify me…’ option, and click apply and then OK. Next, visit the Windows Update site and download and install all of the available updates, and then reboot the computer.

All should is working now, so I can go back and enable the automatic updates again.
